When we think of frizz , we usually think of frizzy curly hair . But frizz can also strike straight hair . So why is your hair so frizzy ? Hair dryness, damage, heat styling, and excessive brushing can lead to frizz .
Luckily, you don't have to live with frizz . Here's how to tame your frizzy straight hair and get the smooth, sleek style you've been dreaming of.
Why is my straight hair frizzy?
Straight hair can become frizzy if it is dry or damaged from heat, bleaches and dyes. Chemical processing and heat styling burn the hair cuticle , making your hair appear puffy, frizzy, or even strawy, even though it is straight. Too much friction from brushing and vigorous towel drying can also ruffle the cuticle and create unsightly frizz.
How do I fix my frizzy straight hair?
If your once-straight hair is now dry and frizzy, here's what you can do:
- Don't overdo the washing. Unless your hair becomes oily very quickly, washing every other day is often sufficient. On days when you skip shampoo, use conditioner to keep your hair fresh and hydrated.
- Use dry shampoo. If your hair feels oily on days you don't use shampoo, use a day 2 dry shampoo to refresh your hair by absorbing excess oil while keeping your hair hydrated.
- Use a shampoo and conditioner for straight hair. Choose an anti-frizz, smoothing shampoo and softening conditioner formulated to keep hair smooth and sleek.
- Use a leave-in conditioner. Generously spray a leave-in conditioner onto damp hair to smooth the cuticle, seal in moisture and create a barrier against frizz.
- Use the flat iron wisely. Hair straighteners can help tame split ends and flyaways, and give you a sleek, sleek style. However, too much heat can burn your hair cuticle. Set your flat iron to the lowest temperature, below 150 degrees if possible. Always use a flat iron spray to create a barrier against heat damage and lock in moisture for softer, shinier hair.
- Protect your hairstyle with hairspray. Combat humidity and keep your locks straight all day with an anti-frizz hairspray.
- Bring a secret weapon against frizz. Smooth out flyaways and make your mane silky, shiny and polished by applying a little touch-up cream to dry hair as soon as frizz begins to appear.
How to prevent frizz in straight hair?
1. Get your hair cut regularly. Keep your hair healthy and eliminate breakage and split ends by getting a haircut every 4 to 6 weeks.
2. Avoid brushing dry hair. Use a wide-toothed comb after showering, working upwards from the ends to minimize breakage. If you absolutely must detangle dry hair, use a natural boar bristle brush and spray a little anti-frizz hairspray.
3. Dry them gently with a towel. Vigorous rubbing with a rough cotton towel can damage the hair cuticle. Instead, gently wring out excess moisture with a soft cotton t-shirt or microfiber towel.
4. Switch to a silk pillowcase. Regular cotton sheets can pull on hair strands, resulting in frizzy, tangled hair in the morning. Silk pillowcases reduce friction and help tame frizz.
5. Avoid burning your hair with hot water. Hot water while showering can damage delicate strands. When you shower, rinse with warm or cold water to seal the hair cuticle and lock in moisture.
6. Apply a deep treatment every week . A restorative hair mask formulated with avocado oil to help ward off frizz by keeping your hair well hydrated.
